Date Added: Fri 16 July 2010
While Spain celebrates its victory in the FIFA World Cup™ 2010, St Ives Westerham Press is looking ahead to possibilities of success for England, in the bid to host FIFA World Cup™ 2018/2022.
St Ives Westerham Press was chosen to print the impressive FA 2018 Bid Book, containing supporting material for England’s official bid to host the FIFA World Cup™ 2018/2022. One of the 500 copies produced by St Ives Westerham Press was presented to FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, by England 2018 Vice-President David Beckham.
The high quality, prized Bid documents comprised of three volumes totalling 1,752 pages, detailing England’s vision for the FIFA World CupTM Finals.
Paul Stevenson, Client Services Director, St Ives Westerham Press, comments, “To be a part of England’s bid process in this way was an absolute honour for Westerham Press and the project received the attention to detail and high standard service it deserved.
“The job started in November 2009 when we carried out many different tests on the presses to ensure line accuracy in the architectural stadia drawings, and exceptional quality throughout. The testing for slipcase cover and carry cases started in February 2010, but despite everyone’s meticulous planning, the sheer scale of the job meant that it was impossible to determine the specific content of the bid book until the very last minute.”
Three weeks prior to the scheduled production date, St Ives Westerham Press were asked to increase the number of pages in the bid book, resulting in changes to the artwork.
Ian Riley, Technical Director, England 2018 explains, “St Ives Westerham were chosen to print the England 2018 Bid Book to present to FIFA in May 2010. The team understood our requirements and delivered high quality work under extreme pressure and tight deadlines. All the staff involved on the project were helpful, efficient and a pleasure to work with. Overall the final product far exceeded our original expectations and we would highly recommend the company to others in the industry.”
The three volumes (‘England’s Bid’, ‘Cities and Stadia’ and ‘Guarantees and Supports’) of the Bid Book were printed using a four colour process, a spot gloss varnish and two different spot colours for each volume. The pages were printed on Robert Horne Hello Silk 115gsm, made from 100% virgin wood fibre, certified by the FSC, and the covers were printed on Reeves Design Bright White 350gsm.
A total of 85 press passes took place over the eight days of production and the Book was bound in a PUR OTA style, allowing the books to be opened flat without damage to the spine.
Paul Stevenson concludes, ”The printing of the FA 2018 Bid Books was a challenging job but the finished product is testament to Westerham’s capabilities for producing quality, high profile products and at the same time, maintaining an exceptional level of customer service from start to finish. Hopefully, the Bid Books will help towards the success of the bid and bring the World Cup to England in 2018.”
